Alec

Kian's deeply closeted best friend and second-in-command whose toxic jealousy over Mikael leads him to betray Kian and orchestrate a devastating tragedy.

Character summary

Book 3
Sanctuary: The Shadows of Afton

Alec operates as the second-in-command of Kian's crew, acting as his loyal sidekick while actively participating in bullying Mikael and extorting weaker students for protection fees at Afton High.

He is deeply closeted and secretly hooks up with his teammate Moises, hiding his true sexuality by overcompensating and projecting fierce homophobia toward others.

Harboring a toxic, obsessive crush on Kian, Alec attempts to kiss his best friend during a sleepover but plays it off as a drunken joke when Kian violently rejects his advances.

Suspicious of Kian's sudden change in behavior and his protective stance over Mikael, Alec stalks Kian to Mikael's house and uncovers their secret romance.

Alec manipulates Kian into confessing by shedding fabricated tears, pretending to be fully supportive of their relationship while secretly being consumed by jealous rage.

Driven by his jealousy, Alec deliberately tips off Kian's pregnant girlfriend, Eve, about the affair and directs an angry mob of villagers to Mikael's house, orchestrating the devastating tragedy that leads to the boys' violent arrest.

During the public trial, Alec completely betrays his former best friend by testifying against Mikael, lying to the sovereign judges that Mikael is a manipulative predator who brainwashed Kian.

Following Mikael's tragic execution, a blood-soaked Kian confronts Alec at gunpoint in the moonlight but ultimately spares his life, leaving Alec to survive alone with his unforgivable guilt.
